In short: open dancyants.com on a laptop, send the picture to the TV or projector, and put your playlist on. The visuals follow the music by themselves. No download, no ads, free to use.
Why not just play a YouTube loop?
A loop is free and takes ten seconds, and for a quiet evening that can be enough. It starts to show at a party: the picture doesn't know what's playing, it repeats, and unless you pay for YouTube Premium an ad will cut in at some point.
| A YouTube loop | Dancy Ants | |
|---|---|---|
| Follows your music | No — it plays its own video | Yes — kick, bass, highs, the build |
| Changes on the drop | Only by luck | Yes, with Autopilot on |
| Ads | Unless you have Premium | None |
| Your music | Plays on its own; your playlist is separate | Any source — Spotify, vinyl, a DJ |
| Cost | Free | Free with our mark on the picture; $39 once without it |
One for every kind of night
There are 40 scenes, and every one of them reacts to the music. Some are slow and soft, some are built for a full room. A few that suit the shape of a night:
Set it up in a minute
- Open dancyants.com on a laptop in Chrome, Edge or Brave. No account needed.
- Send the picture to the TV. Plug in an HDMI cable and press Send to Screen 2, or AirPlay to the TV from a Mac. The TV guide has every route, brand by brand.
- Play your music wherever it normally plays. The laptop's microphone hears it. If the music is on the laptop itself, use Listen to this computer.
- Switch on Autopilot and walk away. It picks the scenes, holds through the build and changes on the drop, so nobody has to stand at the laptop.
TV tonight, wall later
A projector turns a blank wall into the biggest screen in the house, and it connects the same way a TV does. A few things make it look right:
- Dark room, pale wall. A white wall or a bedsheet works. The darker the room, the richer the colours.
- Pick deep scenes. On a projector, scenes with black in them look best — the black becomes the room.
- Keep it out of people's eyes. Put the projector high, or behind the crowd.
Put a name on the wall
The Type layer puts your own words over the visuals — a name, an age, the date. The Logo layer takes an image, if you'd rather use one. The Type layer can pulse with the beat; the logo sits over the moving picture.
A word on flashing light
Some scenes and effects flash. The strobe is held to three flashes a second — the usual limit for people sensitive to flashing light — unless you switch that off, and you can leave the strobe out entirely. If you're showing visuals to a room, let people know there will be flashing lights.
